Dear Party Pop, I have the funniest wedding story to tell. It happened last year at my brother-in-law’s wedding. It takes the prize for most hilarious ceremony mishap. My sister’s name is Hannah and her husband’s name is Steve. They lived together before they got married. After they moved in they got a golden retriever puppy and named him Champ. This dog became their child. They treated him better than they treated a lot of their friends. They became a threesome and Champ was literally their pride and joy. When they started planning their wedding there was no doubt that Champ would be a part of it. My mom wasn’t thrilled with the idea but she wanted my sister to be happy. So it was decided that since there were no little nephews or cousins that Champ would be the ring bearer. It’s crazy I know. But they thought that if they could tie the pillow around Champs body he could walk down the aisle to them and receive a treat from Steve’s hand. Hannah was thrilled. I think she cared more about that than she did her own walk down the aisle. At the rehearsal we practiced a few times and Champ did great. He walked right down the aisle and delivered the rings. On the wedding day it was full steam ahead. Champ had been shampooed and brushed and looked pretty darn good. The wedding coordinator held Champ by a leash while the wedding party made their way down the aisle. Then it was Champ’s turn. He started strong, walking with his chest pushed out, the pillow firmly on his back, but then something happened. Something so hysterical that the guests couldn’t stop laughing. Champ veered right and lifted his leg to urinate at one of the aisle planters. And I think he waited all day to finally do so because he was there for what seemed like an hour. Then he resumed his walk to Steve. The laughter didn’t stop until Hannah made her entrance. Once Steve had gotten the rings he quietly reprimanded Champ and sent him away. I think he might have been worried about Champ making another kind of deposit. When Hannah reached the altar, everyone settled down so as not to miss a moment of the ceremony. The rest of the wedding went as planned but Champ’s walk was the talk of the evening. Everyone kept sharing the details with Hannah to paint her a picture of what she missed. And barely a guest could get through the description without laughing. Needless to say, Champ was not invited to the reception. Sincerely, Phil Meyers
