Trust Your Instincts

| I wanted to share with you the story of how my fiance and I met. Last October, I had planned to do something for myself. So I decided to go to Paris by myself. I had a beautiful hotel booked and one of my friends- a flight attendant had provided me with an itinerary that was sure to have me busy in the city of romance. 2 days before my trip, I had a nagging feeling not to go to Paris. Although I had always thought of going there, and this trip was about change, I was getting signs not to go. I just can't explain it more than that. I immediately decided to go to Hawaii instead. I phoned Hawaii and booked myself a hotel, then booked myself a flight to Honolulu. In just a day or 2, I would be in Hawaii. Suddenly, I felt at ease. This was important to me because this trip was about doing what was good for me for the first time in my life. On my first morning in Hawaii, I woke up early and couldn't adjust to the timechange. I waited until 6:00 am to go for a walk in search for some java. Luckily for me, I didn't have to go far. As it would happen, there was a Starbucks outside my hotel. I popped in to get a coffee. I took a seat by the window and enjoyed my coffee. This was exactly what I wanted to do this vacation. Enjoy the little things I love, such as my favorite coffee and a good book. A few sips into my coffee, a man came and took a seat at the table next to me. As people usually do on vacation, he smiled, said "hi",and started chatting with me. He was pleasant enough and turned out to be good company. He was visiting from New York, and I was from Montreal. We happened to both be there alone, and staying at the same hotel. After a long conversation, he invited me to join him for dinner. I agreed. This was the first sign that something was way off... I am the most street smart, guarded city girl, and would not meet a stranger for dinner- let alone tell him where I was staying. Obviously somehow I knew this would be ok. Dennis came to pick me up for dinner, and surprised me with a flower to put in my hair. He took me to the most beautiful romantic restaurant in Honolulu- the revolving dining room. I thought it was so sweet that I hardly thought it would be a good time to tell him that I am afraid of heights. In exchange for the wonderful company, I put my fear on hold and allowed myself to enjoy my date. It was only mid-meal did I notice how attractive he was. Infact, at a closer look he was exactly my type. Not only on a physical level, but we had similar interests and just seem to be on the same page. It was such a nice feeling to not have to explain myself. He understood. After a beautiful dinner we had made plans to see each other again the next day. I had decided to take things very slow. He was so respectful and surprised me with his thoughtfulness at every chance he got. After spending almost my entire vacation with Dennis, it was time to go home. Back to reality. He said he would call and that he definitely wanted to see me when he got back. Anyone knows you don't fall in love with the guy of your dreams that you meet in Hawaii. This doesn't happen in real life. Although we said goodbye at the airport, I didn't have that sad feeling that we would never see each other again. In fact I was more confident than ever. My journal entry that day reads "I have met my match. He is the guy I will marry". My 10 hour flight home was a blur. When I got home there were 5 postcards waiting in my mailbox. Some had been sent before I had even left him. He kept his promise and called everyday. We started to see each other the first weekend he returned to New York. Since I work for an airline, I have been lucky to be able to spend every weekend together. We have shared so much and 10 months after we met in Hawaii, Dennis proposed. All my dreams had come true. Here I met the man of my dreams and there would be a happy ending. Looking forward to the near future, we are planning a 2007 wedding. I just want to remind people everywhere that love is everywhere and it's fate. When you get that feeling, don't question it. You just know. Something pushed me to go to Hawaii. Now I know what was waiting for me. My dream guy. |
