Hiking Proposal
Article by: Sarah Clarke
| Party Pop,
My boyfriend of three years is a very adventurous guy. He loves to do crazy things and he laughs and tells jokes all the time. Actually he makes me laugh all the time too. I guess I always wanted someone who was happy and I got my wish. He was not the kind of person that did anything in a simple and boring way. One of the things that we loved to do together is go hiking in the mountains. We both love to stay in shape and it usually involves an out door activity. We hadn’t really discussed marriage much. We got along so well that I just figured we will be together forever. I guess it was something I wanted someday, but I never pushed the subject. So, when he pulled this stunt, it was a total shock to me. There is a clearing at one point of our favorite exercising trail. All around the area are tall hills. We stopped to rest on our favorite rock, when all of a sudden a para glider came off the hill with a big kite like banner attached to the top that said, “Please Marry Me Sarah”. I was extremely surprised and did not even expect it. He pulled a ring out of his fanny pack and asked if I would wear it. I didn’t even have to think about it. My hand stretched out in front of him and he placed the ring on my finger. Steve then said, “Come with me baby. I have something to show you.” He then led me to this secluded spot that I didn’t even know existed and I couldn’t believe my eyes. He had a big blanket spread out on the ground with a portable cooler full of great food, a bottle of champagne in a bucket with 2 glasses, and a boom box ready to play some soft and romantic music. There was a tent set up off to the side with an air mattress and plush blankets and pillows inside. He told me we were spending the night. I couldn’t believe it. I asked, “When did you do all this?” He replied, “I paid a few young guys I know from work to do it just a little while ago. We passed them going down the trail about an hour ago. They are going to be here tomorrow about noon to help carry the stuff back down.” I was amazed. I loved this man totally and completely. I walked over to him. I pressed my body up to his and put my arms around his neck and kissed him so passionately that my knees became weak. I don’t think I have ever felt that aroused by him. I then said, “Yes, I would be happy to marry you”. I think there was now a deeper feeling of safe that I didn’t realize was missing. We sat on the blanket and had a wonderful lunch. Steve poured us Champagne and we toasted to our future love and happiness. We ate and drank and visited the tent several times before morning. I didn’t realize it, but Steve had two more bottles sitting in the creek that was only a few minutes walk from our campsite. We made love and swam and played with each other till I couldn’t do it anymore. It was the happiest moment of my life and I knew there would be no dull moments clouding up my future. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal. Needless to say, we also found out shortly after, that a little visitor was on its way in 8 months. We decided to have a simple ceremony at his parent’s cottage on a lake, 2 months from the day we found out about the baby. Now that was a proposal full of many surprises. Thanks,
