Love At the Ski Lift
Article by: Beau Brant
| I am writing to explain how I met my wife, as it's a special and great event in our lives. I hope you may find it interesting and of need for your use.
I was skiing in January of 2002 at Keystone Resort in Colorado. I was in an area I normally don't ski at, I approached the lift line where no one else was..but one woman, who appeared to be lost. I heard her ask the lift operator how to get to a certain area, and I spoke up and said I would help explain. As we got to the top of the lift, I came up next to her and further explained where I thought she should go. We were both by our selves, so I asked if she wanted to ski together and I could show her around. I did for the rest of the day, not knowing what she looked like due to us both being bundled up on a cold winter day. I knew I really enjoyed talking to Jennifer, and felt we were getting a long great! We went in for some hot chocolate, and when she took off her ski gear, I thought to myself..wow..I met a great person! We continued to ski for the remained of the day, and decided to exchange numbers and hopefully ski again. Over the next few months, we developed a great friendship and relationship. Jennifer told me she was planning on doing some more traveling, as she was a nurse who moved all over the country several months at a time. We knew we had something very special, and decided we wanted to continue to make this work. Jennifer moved to St Thomas for 3 months, and during this time I got hired as a pilot for United Express. I had many weeks of training, and did not see her for 3 months she was there. We talked all the time and really enjoyed our conversations. She told me she had some plans to come back and be in Colorado, but also was planning on going to go back to school for several years. Jennifer decided that she would go back to school, and earn a Master's degree in Washington DC in Anesthesia. She started school in August of 2002, and we made the commitment to stay together while she was in school. After about a year of me flying out to see her on the weekends, I had her come out one during her 10 day vacation for a surprise. I took her on the United Express flight I was flying to Casper, Wyoming to stay the night and fly back with me the next morning. On the way back the next morning I gave an announcement to the passengers that I was going to ask my girlfriend to marry me. She was the last passenger on, and everyone was quiet, not saying a thing! We took off on a beautiful morning. When we got to cruising altitude. I gave the announcement about the weather into Denver and turned the fasten seat belt sign off. I then asked for everyone's attention, and spoke about my love for Jen. The flight attendant opened the front closet of the cabin, and then handed her some roses I had put on the airplane. I then came out of the cockpit and she was in the second row....I asked her the big question...and "yes" was the answer! It was so special! I am so lucky to have found her! We left the next day to Costa Rica for a 6 day trip to celebrate our engagement. Over the next two years, we continued going back and forth to visit one another. To get travel benefits, and just to further our commitment, we decided to elope in August of 2004 and still have our planned wedding in May of 2005. She was able to be my companion, and travel back and forth on United from Washington DC to Denver. Finally in December of 2004, she finished school and was able to come home. We were married in May 26th of 2005 and have had a great time traveling and enjoying each day together. We live now in Castle Rock, Colorado and have a new home and have loved our lives together. We are planning on starting a family in the next two years, and continue to create great memories to come. I am enclosing some pictures below, and I hope you have enjoyed our story! |
