Meet Strings Aloud Mairi Hunter - Violin She graduated in 2003 with Honours from Strathclyde University's BA Applied Music course. She was leader of the BA Applied Music Orchestra, since graduating she has worked as a freelance musician playing in Aberdeen University Orchestra and Aberdeen Symphonietta. Mairi worked for a year as a Violin / Viola instructor for Aberdeenshire Council and now works for the City of Edinburgh Council as a string instructor. Since returning to the central belt she has been rebuilding contacts for freelance work playing in large ensembles, recording sessions and chamber work. Mairi is the Sales and Events Manager for Strings Aloud and hopes to build the business into a music agency in future years. Morag Currie - Viola For some years she combined classical violin with traditional fiddle playing before switching to the viola in the early nineties. She studied at Napier University in Edinburgh with Michael Beeston and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Pat Field. During Morag's time at the RSAMD she was both principal and co-principal of several of the Academy orchestras. Since graduation, Morag has combined a freelance playing career with teaching posts at Renfrewshire Council and Strathclyde University. Rosamunde Preston - Cello Rosamunde gained a Bmus (Hon.) from the University of Manchester. Continuing her studies a the Royal Scottish Association of Music and Drama, Rosamunde now works as a cello instructor and freelance musician. As a member of Ardstrath Piano Trio, she works with the "Live Music Now" scheme performing chamber recitals throughout Britain. Gillian Gracie - Violin Gillian Gracie was born in 1980 and began violin and piano lessons at the age of eight. She went on to study music at The University of Strathclyde, gaining an honours degree in Applied Music. Gillian has played with many large ensembles. She was leader of the BA Applied Music Orchestra and The University of Strathclyde Symphony Orchestra. She has also been a member of The National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and Camerata Scotland, performing in many venues across the UK. Gillian is currently a music instructor, teaching the violin in primary and secondary schools in Glasgow. Music Samples (Click here to see more samples)
