Don't Go To Davids Bridal

RE: Houston location on San Felipe

Dear Director of Customer Service,

I am saddened to say that my experience with the David’s Bridal store in Houston (San Felipe) has been a total nightmare. Not only have they treated me (the bride) horrible, but my mother, and my bridesmaids as well.

I first went to David’s Bridal because I have gone there in the past and it was a pleasant experience. I have now realized you are only treated with respect as a prospected customer. Once you become a customer, respect is the last thing you are given.

I first had trouble with my consultant. Or should I say all of them. I would never have the same girl. Anyway, her name was Monique. My sister called in, left her credit card number and address in order for her dress to be shipped. They told my sister they could not charge her card until everyone was measured and everyone paid. Which later I found out was a total lie. Once everyone was measured and paid in full; the paperwork for the girls was missing, along with the credit card information. Leading to my bridesmaids feeling stressed because they had no idea who had there information and had to provide it again.

Secondly, I took my mother in there to try on Mother of the Bride gowns. As we were trying gowns on, a girl (I believe her name was Sara) who worked as a consultant threw the door open and told my mother and I to get out, we were not a “new bride” and the rooms were for “new brides” only. After getting my mother (to whom would be more than happy to serve as a witness, along with my sister) out of the room I spoke with a manager. I told them what happened, they told me she was new and was being watched. I had nothing but problems already with this store. I mentioned to the manager that I would not recommend this store, and would take my business elsewhere. She promised me it would be taken care of, that she was sorry, and offered a garter for the misunderstanding. I accepted, feeling as though it was just a round of bad luck. I guess I should have read about David’s Bridal on the internet before thinking it was a wonderful place to do business. I noticed there are several complaints to the Better Business Bureau, to which I will complain to next if nothing is accomplished here.

Thirdly, I was told that is would take about six weeks for the dresses to come in. Well yesterday, seeing how it had been about two months, I called David’s Bridal myself. The supposed manager working in the morning was VERY RUDE. She told me she could not find any paperwork and asked who my consultant was. I then proceed to tell her that I have had several. She continued to be rude, therefore I raised my voice. She told me she would not listen to me if I continued to raise my voice. By this time, I had no other choice. I spent so much money there, but couldn’t get anyone to listen to me. And every time I did, my paperwork was missing as well as my bridesmaids dresses. She then put me in contact with Tomone (the gentleman who is in charge of calling). He told me very rudely that he has on his call log that he called me on the 10th of September. Which I was NEVER called because if I was, I would not have been calling wondering where the dresses were. NO ONE has access to my phone; therefore there is no way for the message to have been erased. When I told him this, he said he knew what he did and that is all he cared about. I then asked to talk to a different manager, in which he proceeded to tell me that he was one. Which I found out today was a false statement. I asked him what happened to treating the customer like a king or the customer is always right? At least he found the dresses.

I then called Christian Dossey and faxed to her a complaint letter. She is apparently to busy to handle complaints until Friday, and I am tried of fitting around “David’s Bridal’s” schedule. Therefore, we end up where we are at today.

I called today to see why, if the dresses came in a month ago, did no one mail my sisters dress (as she had paid extra for) to her in Louisiana? He told me they just mailed it yesterday and he just let it sit for a month. He has a thousand dresses and can’t just worry about me. So, did he ever make that phone call since he doesn’t have time for his customers?

I can not write anymore as this is upsetting me to much. If need be, I will write again. I think this should get you started.

Sincerely,

Houston, Texas

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
While my experience wasn't as horrible as this persons, I have to agree that NOBODY should shop David's Bridal. It is very true that once you've given them your money, they forget about treating you with respect and customer service is something they know nothing about!
I only purchased my gown and undergarments there. I held off on the tiara and veil because I wanted to shop around. I am so glad I did! I don't intend to give them one more red cent!!!!! I will take my bridesmaids, Mom etc. To another bridal shop and also purchase the rest of my bridal items at another shop!
**** STAY AWAY FROM DAVID'S BRIDAL UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING TREATED HORRIBLY! ******

Sincerely,
Lori

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I'm sorry that your experience(s) with David's has been so horrible. I too have been to some David's where the service was just awful -- the saleswomen were rude and not helpful at all. But, there was one Chicagoland store that, whenever I was there, the sales people seemed very friendly and attentive -- that's where I got my dress. I just went to my first fitting and still have no complaints about the service at that store. I guess it's all up to the people that service you.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
So far my exp. Hasbeen really good at David's Bridal. I bought my wedding dress about two weeks ago, everyone was really helpful. Then about a week ago, I took my bridesmaids in to try on dresses... Again everyone was really helpful. You girls are scaring me, I hope they don't lose my dresses or anything!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
Agreed Ellie, I just got married in November. I had a very positive experience with Davids Bridal in Orland Park, IL. I have posted this before. I bought everything from my tiara to my shoes, had my alterations there, and they did my final aisle ready pressing etc...afterward I used there service for preserving my gown....all went without a hitch and I saved a ton of money. I saw my dress at a small bridal shop not far from my house and it was almost $500.00 more! The only negative I can say is I should have looked around for tiara's I know now that I could of gotten one for cheaper, but mine did match my gown perfectly!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
Hopefully, your experience will continue to be better than mine. I am the one who wrote the October 22, 2003 letter. And guess what, someone from David's Brial just called me back about a week ago. (January 15, 2004) I did not bother to call them back as I have already taken the rest of my business somewhere else. Good luck!

I'm glad I read this. I'm starting to plan weddings. I now know not to send my clients there for dresses. Thank you all for your help!!!!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I posted a reply to another David's Bridal message, but I'll put one here too! In addition to the obnoxious sales reps and bad all around service, they gave out my AND my mother in laws AND my girls information to vendors(photographers, etc...) without asking or telling me. That really iced the cake for me.....

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I have not heard these complaints from Long Island David's Bridal Brides. For a $99.00 dress instead of the thousands that some of my other brides spend they realize that they couldn't even make it for that.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
So far I have purchased my gown, slip and shoes from David's Bridal. I plan on choosing my bridal party's attire from there also ( to take advantage of the discount you get when you buy your dress.) I sure hope I get treated with the respect that every woman who steps foot in there should receive. I am heartily sorry for all the ladies that got treated badly. It's not fair that such a wonderful experience (planning a wedding!) should become such an unpleasant and stressful experience. I hope anyone who has received such poor customer service finds happiness through another vendor. I'll definately be prepared now when I go back for the bridesmaids dresses. Good luck to you all!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I had a decent experience at David's/ I was pleased to find something in my size that was somewhat decently priced becasue I am a big girl and I was very fussy about what I wanted. The salesgirl was erratic, though. She had some personal problems, I guess, and other people had to take care of me, more than once. Otherwise, I was lucky. I was scared before my wedding to read the David's horror stories here. I guess since it was just me and I ended up buying one of the three dresses I tried on, I was an easier type of customer. I was, however, shocked by the cost of alterations and undergarments...

Re: Tucson AZ store
I have to agree wtih the original poster. David's bridal is a disaster. I have been there several times attempting to register and make a purchase. Everytime i go (with set appointments) they let other customers in and assign consultants to other customers while i wait. They are the worst... Their dresses aren't even that great anyways!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
My advice to all you brides, take your business to a shop who wants to help you make it your special day. This problem with David's Bridal is a wide spread epidemic. There has to be a certain criteria for their sales people there, like, "Non rude people need not apply." My experience there was not horrible, but it wasn't the greatest either. My consultant never listen to my suggestions, nor could she remember a simple thing like my name. Red flags kept going up everywhere. I don't know what was wrong with me that day. I fell in their trap and bought just about everything from them. David's Bridal knows how to lure people in, that is thier job, and that is how they stay opened. I did not realize everything wrong with the dress until I got home and took a good long look at it. Think about it. Dresses, directly off the rack. How many people tried it on, pulled, tugged, snagged the dress. Gosh, I hate myself. Please, just run!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
Wow, I had been told not to shop at David's because of their prices, but have never heard horror stories like this. I am so sorry for you girls. I live in Raleigh,NC and because I was buying my gown myself, I went to a local bridal shop. At first it was really busy, but once I had picked out some dresses, the lady stuck by my side the whole time, and then another lady latched on. For about 2 hours, I had 2 ladies all over me, dressing me, and giving me honest opinions. It felt so good. But the best part was, I got the most gorgeous dress for $250.00!!!! I almost felt bad when I walked out of the store because I felt like I stole it. My reccommendation would be to find a place that isnt a large chain. Sure these ladies were just trying to earn commission, but hey, at least they acted like they cared :)

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I agree wholeheartedly that Davids is NOT the place for customer service. I am a pregnant bride and I was treated atrociously once my pregnancy was known. The consultant ignored me and my bridesmaids. After getting the manager involved I was given attention, but everything was so rushed!!
Another time my bridesmaid and I were also kicked out of a dressing room because we were helping ourselves after waiting 30 minutes for assistance. I wish I had nicer things to say. My bridesmaids dresses were bought there and I do hope there is no further issues. Thanks for listening.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I did not go to Davids bridal because of the fact that I heard three different horror stories from women i knew. And none of the three girls even knew eachother, so to hear 3 different horror stories about Davids Bridal customer service was enough for me not to even bother walking through their doors. They are totally overpriced i hear also.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
Sadly, I agree with the original posting. I have tried to play by their rules. Twice I have made appointments only to be told when I get there that I am not listed as having one. The biggest irritation was my bridesmaids came from out of town for this appointment, and were not treated with any respect what so ever. They pushed 5 of my bridesmaids into one filthy dressing stall. The only thing I am pleased with is the price of my dress. I guess the dicount on my dress was paid for in irritation and the high price for alterations. If I were to do it again. I WOULD NOT GO TO DAVID'S BRIDAL! I would rather pay more!

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
David's Bridal is not "overpriced". If you can't afford a David's Bridal gown, I believe your only other options are to borrow a gown from someone or sew it yourself. David's Bridal is basically a discount bridal store.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I too have had a bad experience at david's bridal, monroeville, pa. I went in for a second time with my maid of honor to make a final decision on my gown and the consultant her name was Vicki told me that the dress I chose was inappropriate for a wedding. It was a wedding gown and was the dress that I really wanted, but after the constant mockery with a word I choose not to say, I decided not to purchase my gown at David's because of this reason. I feel as though if the gown was so inappropriate then why was it being sold at David's. My wedding is in August and I have ordered my gown from a different vendor in my area, and believe it or not it is the same gown which is BEAUTIFUL and my consultant thinks so also.

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I, too, went to David's Bridal for my wedding dress. During this visit the saleswoman was sooo accomodating. I picked out a dress. On the second visit to look at bridesmaid dresses I asked for the previous saleswoman. She wasn't working. The saleswoman I got told me that the previous woman would get the commission on my dress and was very accomodating for bridesmaid gowns but we had to share a dressing room even though we had made an appointment. I put my dress on layaway. On the third visit to again look at bridesmaid dresses and pick up my dress we could not even get a "hello" from anyone even though I had again made an appointment. Our saleslady was not only NOT helpful, she was rude!!! We could also not find her when we needed help. What a difference when they know you have already made a purchase. I was sorry I gave them my business for my dress and am definately not going back for my bridesmaid gowns!

Go To Davids Bridal
I got married last summer (June 2004). I bought my wedding dress at the David's Bridal in Knoxville, TN (my aunt lives there). The saleswoman that I worked with was so kind and patient through everything. I did not know what I was looking for at first, but with the suggestions I was given by the saleswoman I found a great dress.
I had the dress altered slightly at the David’s Bridal in Greenville, SC (where I lived) because I lost some weight. The seamstresses were so friendly and made sure that it fit me perfectly. I received so many compliments on my dress the day of the wedding!
My most recent David’s Bridal trip was about 2 months ago. I am going to be a bridesmaid for my cousin’s wedding this June. My cousin picked out her wedding dress and the bridesmaid dresses at the Knoxville location. I was not able to drive all the way down there, so I simply took the dress number to the David’s Bridal in Pittsburgh, PA (where I live now). I found the dress, called my aunt with the size number, and I already have it in my possession. It is a gorgeous dress and I can’t wait to wear it.
All three trips to David’s Bridal have been great for me (and they were to three different stores!). I think the concept is great for having a Bridal Party that does not live in one city. Great selection, affordable prices, and many locations- I couldn’t have been happier with David’s Bridal. I would recommend them to anyone!

Thank You,

Re: Don't Go To Davids Bridal
I had a mixed experience at David's Bridal. So let me just say that w/a few words of advice, you can prepare yourself and have a good experience.
Let me start by saying I am using the David's Bridal in Dewitt, NY. (Syracuse) My consultants name is Stacey and she was great. As great as she could be considering that the consultants were spread so thin amongst over-booked appointments. This is something the company needs to evaluate. Brides to be w/money too spend are not cattle. They should not be herded as such. Dress shopping is part of the whole over all wedding experience. Corporate officials need to start promoting some compassion.
I wish too continue my planning w/David's Bridal. However, when I have an appointment I expect to be catered to a little bit. I shouldn't have to chase down my consultant because she has who knows how many other customers scheduled the same time as myself.
What I am saying is, get a little demanding. Let them know up front when you're making the appointment and when you arrive that this is an investment of thousands of dollars. You will need UNDIVIDED attention.
Out of all fairness, myself and my sister areplanning weddings at the same time. These same problems are everywhere. Even in the small shops.
