I too have freckles which have never really bothered me before. I had a make-over by YSL in preperation for my wedding look and was pleasantly surprised what the right kind of make-up could do.
They basically used a special foundation which covered my freckles without leaving them looking gray. I looked completely different once they'd completed the make-over. I hate make-up the best of times, but this brand gave me a new look without looking thick and pasted.
For a temporary cover-up - check out the YSL brand of make-up. For a more drastic approach, you would need to seek a specialist. X
Check into microdermabrasion. Some salons offer it now, even walmart carries a "cheaper salon version". Its supposed to lighten darker spots and shrink pores.
