I don't think that asking by mail is tacky at all... My friends loved it and called me right then and there to say yes. I wrote nice poems and told them what they meant to me. I think you're jealous for not looking into the fact that she took her time to tell you how much you mean to her and wanted the moment to be as special to you as it was for her when she was proposed to. What kind of friend are you for deciding to gather a group of people to agree that her idea was tacky!!! you should really decline her asking you.... Seriously!
