Wedding Treception Time

We would like top have our ceremony at 11am and then the food and dance later on around 5pm. Some people are supportive of it, others say it has to follow immediately or people will lose interest and not come later. It is on a holiday and there will be festivities all around the city. Is this acceptable to have?
