My Husband and I got married at the JOP in 1984 . A few years after getting married I got sick so we never have really had the chance to have the wedding of our dreams . I am still sick but things have seemed to settle down with my health .For many years we had always planned to have a " Real Wedding " but with my health and lack of funds have never made it possiable .
While out window shopping 2 weeks ago we went into a bridal show ( I really do not know why we went in , I guess just dreaming ) but I tried on a couple of dresses and found a Beautiful dress that covers the scars on my chest and neck and fit me . When my husband saw me in the dress he started to cry which of corse made me cry and everyone else in the store helping us, I believe it was fate that led us into the store because not only did I find the perfect dress we looked at the price and the orginal price was $750 which was crossed out and $199 was in it's place we we so shocked when the sales clerk told us that the dress was on sale for $99.00 dollars . I couldn't believe it but we put it on layaway we are planning to renew our vows on our 23 rd wedding anniv. We dont have many friends my health has made people stay away and I am not close to alot of my family just my twin sister I told my mom tonight that we were planning this and she said I already had a wedding and it was not propper for me to even think about wearing white or expect for anyone to come becaue it is a waste of time and money . Am I wrong to want the wecding of our dreams I really dont consider getting married at the JOP in vegas as a wedding I didnt even have any flowers and it was just my husband and my mother there . Any advice I would greatly appricate Thank you and God Bless
Hi, You're not at all crazy for wanting to do this. However, a better way to phrase it might be a renewal or re-affirmation of your wedding vows. We just celebrated our 25th anniversary by renewing our vows.While our 1st wedding was a big church wedding & reception, it wasn't really what I wanted; but being married in the church was essential for my husband and his family. This time we 're-married' on the beach with just our daughters, the priest, and his wife. I had a lovely off-white dress, our daughters chose the flowers & each read a poem I chose, we wrote our vows. The ceremony was perfect, mostly because I wrote a lot of it, or got ideas off the web. It was a pretty long ceremony, and very spiritual and moving. It was so much more like what I wanted, and my husband did it because he knew an outdoor wedding was what I'd always dreamed of. "Back in the day", all these personal touches just weren't done (not in church anyway), & now I got to do it the way I wanted.We are soon going to have a small reception with our friends and family which I am planning every detail of. People do this all the time, but a good way to have people be more supportive of you may be to call it a renewal or rededication to each other. Good luck, and I hope it is as beautiful as ours was. It's really about the 2 of you, and if that's all that's there, that's who matters.
